I've been matronizing this tap room since they opened. Metro is a lager-only brewery, and they do a brilliant job of showcasing how versatile this broad style can be. You want light and easy? They have it. Hoppy and crisp? Check. Dark and roasty? Duh! Beer pours range from a taster to a full liter, depending on your dedication. Even if beer isn't your thing, go for the views alone. Yes, the Chicago River isn't one of the 7 Wonders of the World, but their riverside patio can't be beaten. They are currently not allowed to seat guests inside, so their patio seating is subject to the cooperation of the weather. And we all know how dependable Chicago weather can be...
There's no kitchen here, so they welcome guests to bring their own food or have food delivered to the tap room. There are a few places nearby that I really like:
DMen Tap: Traditional Turkish Döner Kebabs
Taqueria Traspasada: Mexican Cuisine (Try the black salsa!)
Cafe Tola #2: Empanadas, Burritos, Tacos
Jaiyen: Sushi, Noodles
Honey Butter Fried Chicken: The name says it all!
Kuma's Corner: Insane Burgers
Metro is also dog-and-kid-friendly, which I know can be a game-changer for a lot of us.
If you're a boat-owning sonofagun, you can dock in the marina and walk right up to the tap room. You can also rent from Chicago Electric Boat Company and Wateriders, which are all located within the same Rockwell on the River building.
This is also a woman-owned brewery, which is icing on the keg. Tracy and her team create incredible beers and a gorgeous environment in which to enjoy them. And even though I'm a hop head, this German-centric brewery is still one of my favorites in Chicago. Prost!
